Remember that one post I wrote awhile back about how I had a few DIY projects I wanted to do? Well after a few months I finally took my behind in the kitchen and made myself some lip balm, which I absolutely love. I’m one of those girls who will buy about 3 lip balms or chap-sticks at a time and lose 2 out of 3 within the week and that stuff is not one bit of cheap okay, especially if you like Burt’s Bee like me. BUT what I created may be way better, longer lasting, healthier and it makes my lips feel like heaven.

I went in the bathroom and grabbed all the supplies I ordered two months prior, then went in the kitchen to start melting down my beeswax, cocoa butter, Shea butter and coconut oil. Once it all melted down I added in some almond oil, a few drops of lavender oil and strawberry fragrance oil. That alone, only took about 4-5 minutes and pouring it into my 10ml travel jars only took a minute. So, in total making your own lip balm takes about 6 minutes. I was able to fill up 7 jars with the measurements I used:

  • 2 tbsp of beeswax
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • I tbsp Shea Butter
  • 1 tbsp Cocoa Butter
  • 1 tbsp Sweet Almond Oil

Now when it comes to the oils, add how ever much or less you want. For the fragrance oils I’ve heard some people say they had to use the whole bottle but I didn’t have to and it smells just like strawberry lip balm, even after it cooled off, which took about a minute or so.

I found this particular recipe on Pinterest and tweaked it a bit. You can play around with the measurements and even add in different oils. Next time I’m going to try adding in jojoba oil and maybe use a little color from my lipsticks I never use to add a tint to the balm. I recommend using this balm as a primer under your lipstick or add it to you’re nightly routine. I used my homemade vanilla brown sugar lip scrub and then applied the lip balm after. When I woke up my lips were not dry or splitting like I’m used to in the morning.

You can also use these same ingredients, minus the fragrance oil to make a body balm. I’m going to look more into how to make that and body butter next time around. Either way I’m very happy to save some money and I have a ton of supplies left to make more. I gave a jar to everyone in the house including the kids and had one left to spare. Also this will last for a year, but I’m sure I’ll use mine up before then.

FYI: make sure to keep them in a cool place if you don’t want to end up with a jar of oil.

Do It Yourself: A Few Projects I’ll Be Starting.

Can you believe we are still in a pandemic? I can lol.

For 4.5 months I’ve been sitting home doing work and that’s about it. I haven’t had the opportunity to go sit in somebodies chair at the nail salon to get my feet pampered or my nails done. Buuuttt I also don’t want to because Covid is real. Thanks to some of these places opening, press ons, which were already my thing when I needed a quick fix, are back on the shelves. It made be realize I may never need to go back to a salon again.

Seeing that I’ll most likely be working from home for two more months I decided to go all in and take the time to start those DIY Beauty & Health projects I’ve been putting off for months, some even years. Some of my favorite things in life are sugar/salt scrubs for my lips and my body, lipstick/chapstick, candles and I’ve definitely been into the nail thing (press-ons that is because I can’t stand having nails on all the time). So with that said, I jumped on Amazon and ordered me supplies to start doing my nails:

  • BTArtbox Full Cover False Nails – clear
  • 10Pcs Adhesive Bond Glue
  • UV LED Nail Lamp
  • AIBRIT 24 Pcs Gel Polish
  • Cuccio Milk & Honey Cuticle Oil

The amount of money spent on getting the items is already less than it would be had I went to get my nails done. Isn’t it everyone’s dream to save? I know it’s mine. Once I get the hang of giving myself a manicure and getting these nails perfected I think I also want to try using foil covers on them, so that will be next on my to get list.

Another project I’ll be experimenting with is making lip balm. I know most women have gone into the business of selling lip gloss but those are not my motives, although once upon a time I wanted to start a lipstick company. I’ve had all the items I’ve needed sitting in my cart for almost a year now and I can even use some of my old lip sticks or gloss to play around with tint. I’m so over buying lip balm just to turn around lose it and buy more. I’ll just start making my own. Once I order my stuff and make some I will post the pics and steps for you guys! Along with that I’ll probably also try out a lip scrub.

I think my last one I will try is candle making. I need to look into that a little more though.

OH NO! A Pimple.

Every find yourself rolling around in sunflowers, walking across a rainbow and singing in the rain (aka having an absolutely amazing day) and then suddenly you start to feel swelling/a sore on a targeted spot of your face. Instantly your annoyed because you know that more than likely it’s a sign of a pimple developing. I don’t know about you but for me it’s one of the worst feelings ever. I get to feeling like I’ve immediately turned into a beast.

I always figured acne was something you only had to deal with as an adolescent and since I didn’t have those issues during that time of life I figured I completely avoided acne all together. No one told me that once I had a kid I’d be looking for ways to avoid a pimple every other week, but here I am currently trying to get rid of the three on my face. They tend to have their favorite spots, which are on both my cheeks and sometimes on my forehead.

The cause of my pimples are usually the following:

  • Stress
  • PMS
  • Oily face (my face is usually dry but once it becomes oily a pimple quickly forms.)

Once I notice pimples this is the routine I use to get rid of them as fast as possible (I need to start doing it the moment I feel one coming). Noting that I am no expert when it comes to skin-care, I just do what works for me.

  1. Wash my face with warm water
  2. Apply Neutrogena face wash.
  3. Wash off face wash
  4. I then use a Shea sugar scrub by Tree Hut called Moroccan Rose. I rub softly in a circular motion. I like to use this scrub because I have a really dry face and it helps with all the dead skin.
  5. After washing off the scrub I apply my Freeman peel off mask. My favorite is the Cucumber but I also use the green tea gel mask and the black charcoal.
  6. Once I peel off mask, I rinse my face with warm water.

If you like apply an oil or cream after.

What is the routine you use to get rid of acne?

The Floral Bath Take Over

Pinterest has become one of my favorite apps to use, when it comes to looking for ideas for food, clothing, decorations and promoting your work. But I also find it as a place of peace. Sometimes just looking a pictures and adding them to my boards are relaxing.

In the process of my browsing I’ve began to come across a lot of pictures of women having photo shoots in tubs filled with flowers. Now I’m a girl that loves a bath, especially during those times your body is sore, or you’ve had a long day and want a place to clear your mind and relax. My baths have always consisted of bubbles, some oil and if I really need to relax epsom salt (lavender).

Now could I imagine filling my bath water with flowers? Maybe for a romantic occasion but that’s about it. I barely know much about flowers because at one point I didn’t like them, though I am coming around, so, I wouldn’t even know where to start. The main question I had with the takeover of the floral bath was, is it for looks or are there actually benefits to them?

Here’s what I found – adding flowers and other herbs to your bath have healing benefits. I will list a few benefits of different flowers/herbs. Maybe it’ll convince some of you to turn it into a ritual and even make a cute Instagram post out of it.

Rose: Hydrates the skin

Sweet Jasmine: are you in a mood and looking to be uplifted? Sweet Jasmine is for you.

Lotus Flowers: Softens skin and reduces anxiety

Orchid: Reduces fine lines, wrinkles and contains antioxidant properties

Rosemary Petals: Boost blood circulation

Peony: Helps tone the skin

Looking for more of a spa feel, add milk into your bath. Milk baths help clean and exfoliate the skin, leaving you feeling as soft as a teddy bear.

Thanks to all of the benefits, physically and spiritually I believe floral/herbal baths are the new thing and it’s about time I give it a try myself. Have you had a chance to experience the greatness?

3 Essentials I MUST Have in My Makeup Bag

I’m not big on makeup and as much as I want to learn how to slay my face I don’t think I have the patience. The outcomes I see are always beautiful but the time it takes to make it happen, I just don’t have, at least not on a weekday. Then I think about having to take it off at the end of the day and do my skin-care routine… It’s a lot and I give all you makeup queens props. Even though I haven’t learned too much about slaying my face there are three essentials that I need to have in my makeup bag and on my face at almost all times.

1. Eyeliner

I don’t have a favorite brand but I usually stick to the black pencil, not the one the has to be sharpened because I literally always break them.  I have used the liner in the little jar with my eyeliner brush but the pencil seems to do me more justice. If I want a more natural look I like to use a brown eyeliner, which at this very moment I need to restock up on. From the moment I finally put eyeliner on I haven’t been able to go back. I feel completely naked without it and not myself. I must have it at all times and if I don’t my next essential will do the job.

2. Mascara

I usually pair mascara with my liner to add length to my lashes. For the longest I wanted to try to put on lashes because I felt like I didn’t have any, especially since they curl all over the place but it just took finding the right mascara. My go to is Maybelline Volum’ Express Push Up Drama Mascara in Very Black. It adds the length and volume that I need without having to figure out how to apply lashes. My second choice is Maybelline Volum’ Express Pumped Up! Colossal Mascara

3. Lip Gloss/Lip Stick

My lips are one of my best features on my face besides my eyes and it’s only right I dress them up. If I’m not putting any color on my lips I tend to use either a regular chapstick but I prefer to use e.l.f lip plumping gloss or e.l.f lip oil. These two glosses will definitely have you walking around singing my lip gloss is popping. When I’m not wearing gloss I like to wear a matte lipstick. I’m more so into the neutral colors as those match up with my skin tone a bit more, anything that is around the brownish/purplish shade is perfect for me for example I always have to have Photo and Stone by M.A.C on deck. Also I love Kylie’s matte lip sticks but I do suggest using lip primer or a chapstick before applying if you don’t want your lips to feel chapped. Some people hate it but I have a makeup bag full of them. My favorites are Love Bite, Punk & True Brown. All my other lipsticks from Kylie are similar to those shades. There’s something about lipstick that brings out the sexy in me.
